Outdoor Comfort in Na Hutích, Prague

Outdoor comfort assessment in Na Hutích is a project focused on improving pedestrian thermal comfort and reducing urban heat through smart, data-driven design. By integrating green spaces, trees, and water elements, the design enhances cooling and wind ventilation. Through multiple assessments and refinements, the final concept ensures a comfortable and sustainable urban environment.

OUTDOOR THERMAL COMFORT

Outdoor Thermal Comfort (OTC) ensures that urban spaces remain pleasant and usable despite extreme temperatures. By integrating blue-green infrastructure like trees, green roofs, and water features, cities can reduce heat stress and enhance pedestrian comfort. Thoughtful urban design and climate-responsive planning help create cooler, more livable environments for everyone.

INITIAL DESIGN

(SCENARIO 1)
  • Scenario 1, derived from the initial concept design for the built environment, was simulated to evaluate the outdoor thermal comfort.
2

FIRST OUTDOOR THERMAL COMFORT ASSESSMENT

  • Based on the evaluation, a new urban design was collaboratively developed with the client to enhance pedestrian thermal comfort and mitigate urban heat.
3

INTERMEDIATE DESIGN

(SCENARIO 2)
  • This scenario was designed to mitigate urban heat in the project area by integrating blue-green infrastructure, including green spaces, green roofs, trees, and a water fountain.

SECOND OUTDOOR THERMAL COMFORT ASSESSMENTS

(SCENARIO 2)
  • Scenario 2 was simulated to assess the outdoor thermal comfort. Based on the assessment, a new urban design was collaboratively developed with the client to further enhance pedestrian thermal comfort and mitigate urban heat.

FINAL DESIGN

  • The final design is based on the results of the above assessments.
  • Additionally, it incorporated further interventions on building morphology adjustments, to enhance wind ventilation and cool down the urban microclimate.
  • This final design ensured optimum thermal comfort through a data-driven design approach.
