After successfully delivering projects on assessing heat vulnerability of cities for the municipalities in Vienna (Austria) and Prague (Czechia) and also for a Las Vegas based company Fontis Technologies LLC, ECOTEN urban comfort embarker upon a new journey to create a global indicator which allows cities to compare its level of vulnerability to extreme heat events with other cities based on a ranking methodology.
This methodology includes quantitatively scoring each city (in a group of cities) based on its level of vulnerability. This score is measured by a unique framework that takes into account three components of vulnerability, which are exposure, sensitivity and adaptive capacity. This score is called the Heat Resilient City Index (HRCI) which is a quantitative number that is assigned for each city where lower the HRCI score, the more vulnerable the city is to extreme heat events.
This index is designed to compare different cities from one another in terms of heat vulnerability and it is also used to rank cities from lowest to highest HRCI. The objective of this ranking is to foster innovation and cooperation between cities towards adaptation to extreme heat events, climate change and other environmental hazards.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The list provided below shows experimental results that are subjected to be updated. The team of ECOTEN urban comfort is dedicated to updating the list continuously. Therefore, kindly refrain from using the list below for any professional assessments and it is subjected to changes, updates and growth.
